We bought two of these for rooms with low ceilings (less than 8'). The bottom of the motor is only about 6 1/2" below the ceiling when installed. The installation was easy and the manufacturer was kind enough to include a few extra screws and washers just in case. The fans are very quiet and will provide good air circulation in rooms about 12 x 12. Light fixtures are available, but we haven't tried one yet.

it's a good looking fan, silent, and great for a lower ceiling but it just doesn't move the air enough. i have a tiny bedroom and i sleep directly below it and i can barely feel a breeze at all.
