Hampton Bay makes two kind of remotes, a wall switch/remote and a battery powered remote. They also make a kit that has both.

For the wall switch remote, wire the wall switch in-line with the black supply wire to the fan, so if you are replacing a separate wall switch that controlled a light or outlet, the switch goes between the source of power and the wire that carries power to the light receptacle (now the fan receptacle).

So, the wall switch/remote comes with a switch with a bunch of buttons that control the fan and light, and a black remote receiver that has 5 wires coming out of it. The receiver goes into the fan housing, up by the ceiling. You take the white and black supply wires and wire them to the white (power neutral in) and black (power source in) that are both on one side of the receiver module.
