Fortunately, my husband knew that when the fan is installed the blades need to move freely without power and that wasn't happening. If you run it while the blades are locked up you can burn out the motor.
He had to take the unit apart and found a clip improperly installed in the motor. He was able to repair it and reassemble the fan and now it works fine. My biggest complaint is that neither fan (I bought 2) had a chain weight. One of the fans didn't even come with extension chains.
