Summary: Unit turns on by itself! 2008-11-06
Comment: Installation required running wire for wall mount (and holes to patch & repaint). Needs a garage door battery which was not included. Electrician installed/reinstalled remote twice in order to try & stop the fan and the light from randomly turning on by themselves! (Not very good to go in the kitchen at 2AM & find the light or the fan on.) Will have to try another brand and pay for another electrician's visit in order to get the result I thought this would provide.

Summary: Strange operation 2008-10-15
Comment: I have to agree with the other negative reviews here. The receiver box for this is just a bit too large and is VERY, VERY difficult to jam into the ceiling fan. You can, but it's a real hassle.

My greatest complaint is how it mysteriously turns the light and fan on at random intervals. Yes, I've checked that there's no neighbors with a similar controller. Yes, I've switched the DIP switches to a different setting (thus enduring the extreme hassle of cramming the box back into the ceiling fan).

I can live with it randomly turning on the fan now and then. But it's taken to turning the LIGHT on about every other night, in the middle of the night. This is a BAD THING when the fan is in the baby's room. As any new parent will tell you, DO NOT WAKE A SLEEPING BABY in the middle of the night.

So if you're looking for a remote control for your ceiling fan I can't say this is a good solution. It just isn't reliable enough to make it worth the money.

Summary: A popular remote, so change the frequenies. 2008-08-04
Comment: As an electrician, I see and install this remote as well as many others. Most remote systems come with DIP switches that allow you to change the frequency of the wireless signal in order to avoid interference. Most commonly, you alter these so that fans in adjoining rooms don't come on at the same time with one remote.

Since this is a popular product, and most people just install it "as-is," there are a lot of fans all running on the same (default) frequency. Do yourself a favor and flip a couple of the DIP switches on the remote and receiver (make sure they match).

One of the nicest things about this remote is that it doesn't actually need to be wired into anything. The wires for the switch act only as a service disconnect. This switch could be installed in any switchbox, even an empty one, regardless of where the fan gets power from.

The canopy module is no larger or more difficult than any other wireless-style fan remote to install. In fact it is slightly smaller than average.

Summary: Poorly Designed Product 2008-07-17
Comment: Wow. Where do I begin? This is one of the most poorly designed products I have ever seen. First, just so you know, it requires a battery--not included (the packaging lets you know this in VERY small print in the back). The battery size it requires is A23--a very obscure size. The packaging appears to show that the unit comes with a face plate. It does not (even though all other wall switch transmitters I've seen include this). The transmitter wall mount has the ground wire extend well below the frame...which makes it so that you have to virtually rip it off in order to attach it to the box. The receiver is too large and extremely difficult to fit into a bracket hanger. If you have the light set to dim and you turn it off, the next time you turn it on, it is back up to the brightest setting. If the power goes out, when it comes back on, the light automatically turns on to the brightest setting--not good if your 3-year-old is trying to sleep. Do yourself a favor and, if you can, purchase the Hampton Bay...or maybe Hunter has a better unit available that I haven't seen. I haven't tried the Harbor Breeze or Hampton Bay unit that requires the standard 9 volt battery (which the packaging clearly states). But I have tried the unit that connects to your power from the original switch so that you don't need to worry about ever replacing a battery (this may not be an option if a wall switch or electrical box is not already where you intend to install the transmitter). It installs much easier, it remembers your light setting every time you turn it off and back on, and it comes with a face plate.

Summary: dissappointing 2008-06-20
Comment: This switch looks great and works poorly. I have had it for a week now installed by an electritian and like the others say, light and fan at full blast come on in the middle of the night/day for no appearent reason. I knew I was taking a risk from previous reviews but wanted a Hunter wall switch to match the hunter fan hoping the issues would be less. Anyone have an idea about a possible Cassablanca wall switch that will work with this?
